Trixie ~
Lab - Retriever - Chow - Pitbull
60 pounds, 7 years old

Trixie and Luke

Trixie is the Dog Queen of the Bunker. She was a free pup given to us out of the back of a car in September of 2003 when she was 11 weeks old. Trixie has an allergy to grass, so staying inside (back half of house for the most part) suits her just fine (along with allergy meds). Part of the back yard was fenced in March 2010, so Trixie and her friends have plenty of room to run (See video below). She loves to play with us and the other dogs, but lets them know when she's had enough...she is THE dominant dog of the six.

Gizmo ~
Terrier Mix
Approx 4 & half years old

Jeff and Gizmo

I know, I know, I shouldn't have done it - but I just felt bad for the little guy. This pup began hanging around one of my kid's house on the bus route, so mom asked if I'd take him. He's been with us since May 2007.
We were deemed his "foster family" by the Ken-Tenn Humane Society so they paid for his shots and neutering. Gizmo is named after the Gremlin - it suits him well.

Lady Rebel ~
Border Collie/Shepherd Mix
Approx 4 years old

dawn & rebel

Like we needed another one...But this pup jumped all over Dawn when we were getting Jacob's car fixed. The mechanic said this dog had been abandoned there 2 weeks earlier and he had too many to care for. So, she came home with us October 24th, 2008. We named her "Lady Rebel" after the OCCHS Lady Rebels Basketball Team.

Nitro ~

Blue Tick Hound mix

Approx 3 years old

Nitro

Nitro was a stray that began hanging around in late December 2009. After three weeks of wandering the neighborhood, he tried to get warm under my parked bus here at the house during a cold night. Dawn said to bring him in, he never left. Nitro is very energetic and is short for nitroglycerin.

Shysie ~
Blue Heeler
Approx 3 years old

Shysie

This dog ran up under my bus Thanksgiving week 2009 when I was waiting to pull out onto a four lane highway. After telling her to stand clear (which she did), she chased me when I pulled away. I pulled over, opened the door, and she bolted on board. We posted her as a 'found' dog on the local radio station, but no one claimed her - she's now one of us. The name "Shysie" is native american for "silent little one."

Sophie ~
Lab/Great Pyrenees mix

5 weeks old 7-10-10

Sophie

A family was giving pups away at Wal-Mart that had 6 dogs, and 3 cats of their own. A stray came along to their house, had pups, and left the litter. They were trying to find good homes for them. Of the 9 in the litter, 5 were already taken by the time we just happened along July 10, 2010. We were going to name her Sarah (after the awesome Sarah Palin) but remembered we have a new niece named that – so we named Sophie.
